Justice Information Center
Justice Information Center is one of the most extensive sources of information on criminal and juvenile justice in the world, providing services to an international community of policymakers and professionals. NCJRS is a collection of clearinghouses supporting all bureaus of the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs: the National Institute of Justice, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, the Bureau of Justice Statistics, the Bureau of Justice Assistance, the Office for Victims of Crime, and the OJP Program Offices. It also supports the Office of National Drug Control Policy.

Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics

United States Department of Justice
Collection of data on criminal justice in the U.S. taken from over 100 sources and published by the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Statistics. Includes summaries of the Sourcebook with downloadable tables, graphs, and explanatory text.

National Crime Victimization Survey

Bureau of Justice Statistics
The NCVS provides a detailed picture of crime incidents, victims, and trends. The Survey also estimates the number and types of crimes not reported to police.

BJS collects, analyzes, publishes, and disseminates information on crime, criminal offenders, victims of crime, and the operation of justice systems at all levels of government. Among the many informative documents available here are a description of the Nation's two crime measures (the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program and the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS)) and a section devoted to Crime and Victims Statistics.

This U.S. Department of Justice site offers many datasets and associated codebooks for downloading as ASCII files, Acrobat files, or ordering paper copy by e-mail, phone, or fax. FindLaw is comprised of three search engines: the eponymous FindLaw which searches legal databases; FindLaw: Law Reviews, which offers full-text searches of legal journals on the Net; and the rather awesome LawCrawler which offers over a dozen options, the main one being "all U.S. sites with legal information."

Use Academic Universe to find full-text newspaper articles as well as business, medical, legal and general reference information. Access restricted to the Saint Anselm College Community.

The Legal Information Institute at Cornell University
The Legal Information Institute Web site contains a huge amount of legal material organized by topic, type, and source, from state statutes to recent Supreme Court decisions. A recent addition is the Federal Judicial Statistics interface, which lets you get statistics on over 3.5 million (!) federal civil cases over the last 15 years.
